Poetic Wanderings

A space to share my occasional poetry with those who care to walk the edges of the creek with me. I often discover these musings tumbling along as I wander the trails. I try to capture them intact to bring home and entertain awhile. They can be delightful company!

July Dawning

The morning lays slack

After enduring

Days end to days end

Strung taught

Upon nights of

Hot restless tension

Finally the cool

Cover of night

Freed the dawn

From the rigors

Of the relentless sun

The labors

Of its inhabitants

The perpetual ask

Of sustaining things

The earth sighs

Relaxing

Releasing

Light Arising Quietly

Restoring vision

Slowly brimming over

The night’s edges

A thin horizon

Renewing the world

Blackberry season

Excuse me for a while

as I disappear

into the edge of

the woods seeking

summer’s sweet fruit

Don’t mind the scratches,

I’ll endure the pokes

to dive deep,

covered in brambles,

of momentary discomfort.

I’m searching,

selecting, tasting,

savoring the sweetness

of black gold

arriving in it’s time

It’s harvest

this moment,

a bountiful brilliance

of sun, heat and sweat

on simmering skin.

I won’t miss a morsel

filling my hands

with bursts of beauty

this present discovery,

Glory shrouded in bramble.

The Deepening

Expanse of Velvet

Stretches upward

Deep midnight

Drapes the sky

Slowly fading

Down to denim

Soft and worn

Against the edges

Of rigid mountains

Firmly standing

Dark and solid

Along the water

As it rises

A rhythm swelling

As light is swaying,

Washing away

The day with

Night’s shades
